The Blurb
After one hilarious, disastrous magic show too many, Abby’s dad decides it’s time to give up showbiz. Until the day Abby finds a mysterious, dusty old book of spells among her mum’s things. Mum had always been the dazzling magician, after all. As Abby practises, each new spell brings wonder and joy, not only to Abby and her dad, but also to the whole community.
Nothing lasts forever, though, and after each public performance another spell vanishes from the book. So before the magic disappears forever, Abby and Dad plan one final, spectacular, impossible show . . .

The Review
What a gloriously uplifting story The Magician’s Daughter is! A celebration of family, community, and living in the now that leaves you with a full heart and a massive smile.
Abby and her Dad are still feeling their way through a life without Mum, and the magic shows that used to draw crowds now create gasps and laughter for all the wrong reasons. When Dad gets a proper job in a local care home, Abby feels another link to Mum disappear, until she discovers that real magic exists, and finds a way to reignite her Dad’s spark.
Linda is the fabulous family friend who has stepped in to help Abby in the way a Mum would, and proof that good friends really are the family we choose for ourselves. Her no nonsense approach to life is just what Abby and Dad need to keep their feet on the ground, manage the growing media circus and make sure the two final spectacular shows are organised properly.
Vivid descriptions and colourful imagery bring to life and the magic and wonder of Abby spells. The joy they bring to the care home residents sees them band together to help put on the greatest show. I loved the interaction between Myra (Abby’s best friend) and Glenys, a retired seamstress, who knows just how to channel the budding fashion designers talents and bring out the best in her.
Exploring grief and bullying, Caryl seamlessly stiches the different threads together to create a story that will leave you spellbound, bursting with hope, and ready to chase your dreams
