The Blurb

Vinay, Musa, Inua and Nish are best friends. Nothing can separate them… until one day when Vinay’s cousin comes to invade his bunk bed haven (i.e. share his room). When a prank war starts, can the friends remember what really matters?

The Review

A hilarious, prank filled exploration of what it means to be a family of friends.

Nikesh Shukla skilfully weaves a narrative that beautifully balances humour and touching moments of camaraderie. Young readers will be drawn into the world of these lovable characters as they navigate the ups and downs of friendship. Rochelle Falconer’s charming illustrations add an extra layer of enjoyment to the story, bringing the characters and their mischievous antics to life.

The Council of Good Friends reminds us all of the importance of true friendship, that family always look out for each other, and the value of cherishing the moments that truly matter. It also reminds children and adults alike to really mean it when we ask, “Are you OK?”

This book is a must-read for kids, offering a heart-warming and fun-filled adventure that will leave a lasting impression. With themes of grief and refugees gently touch upon, this is perfect for Year 2 and above. It would make a fantastic read aloud as well as an important read for empathy.

I hope this isn’t the last we hear from Vinay, Musa, Inua, Nish and Nikesh.
