The Blurb

Lulu Whifferton-Rear loves to mind her own badgery business, but when she discovers that important humans are actually BOPs (Badger Operated Persons), she is thrust into the world of the Rumpington Academy of Badgering. There, her catastrophic training leads to the most dramatic of first missions . . . SAVE THE WORLD!

The Review

A rip-roaring adventure, brimming with pluck, warmth, and a good dash of light-hearted nonsense, that rallies young readers to embrace their quirks and keep their chins up.

At Rumpington, Lulu’s training is far from smooth. In fact, it is downright catastrophic, and her misadventures provide much of the story’s laugh out loud moments. Whether it’s an anxiety driven, overzealous attempt at a procedure, or a mishap with cheese and tomato sandwiches, Lulu’s struggles will resonate with anyone who has ever felt out of place or overwhelmed. However, her unique approach to life at the Academy, ultimately becomes her greatest strength.

Susannah balances light-hearted fun with underlying themes of self-acceptance and perseverance. Lulu’s doubts and failures are as much a part of her character as her successes, making her journey all the more inspiring for young readers who may be navigating their own challenges. I loved the message that what others might see as a flaw can actually be an asset in the right situation.

The illustrations by Nici add an extra layer of charm to the book. They are vibrant and full of life, bringing the badger characters and their world to vivid, quirky life, complementing the text beautifully. I loved the whole tone of the story as well, with badgers talking like the old chaps from the RAF in WW2.

Badgers Are GO! is a thoroughly enjoyable read that will leave you laughing, cheering, and perhaps looking at badgers a little differently. It’s a heart-warming, whimsical story that proves being yourself, even with all your imperfections, is what truly saves the day.

Utterly spiffing chaps! I do hope there is more derry-doing to come with Lulu and pals.
