The Review

An electrifying twist on the classic zombie tale that’s as thought-provoking as it is thrilling which left me buzzing!

Set in a dystopian world where the extinction of bees has led to a chilling alternative – death-flies that rely on zombie bodies to sustain food production – the story weaves an environmental message into the gripping horror, as well as spotlighting the ‘truth’ behind staged social media.

I love Alice’s fresh perspective on zombies – she doesn’t just reimagine the undead; she redefines their place in the genre, making them crucial to human survival while still being capable of humanity’s destruction.

Vivid settings from mountain forests to city sewers provide the backdrop for well drawn characters. Merian is strong and self-assured in her beliefs in the face of ridicule from the city dwellers she meets at the event with her mother. Casper is unsure of himself but equally sure that his opposing beliefs are right. As they are forced together, both have to rapidly evaluate evidence as it presents itself in order to survive.

Perfect for fans of bold, imaginative storytelling, The Zombie Project will leave readers of all ages questioning what it really means to save the world.
