Once Upon A Wild Wood by Chris Riddell

Little Green Rain Cape might just be the smartest and kindest of all of the fairytale characters. Using her common sense and compassion, she sets off for Rapunzel’s birthday party with her strong, straight stick, comfortable, clumpy boots, a backpack full of essentials and her party invitation.

Along the way she encounters a whole host of fairytale characters including a helpful wolf, a kindly old lady and a friendly troll among others, helping those in need.

A glorious picturebook for children of all ages, and a joy to read aloud, which had our Year 1’s gasping with delight as they recognised well known and loved characters, and with surprise as the same characters showed new and unexpected character traits.

From the minute you set eyes upon the captivating cut-out cover to the moment you discover the final end papers, Chris Riddell’s stunning illustrations will have you (and any children lucky enough to wrestle it from their adults) pouring over the details time and again as you explore his fairytale world, enjoying a fabulous new fairytale told with wit, warmth and charm.

I hope the teaser at the end does mean there is more to come…

Huge thanks to Fritha Lindqvist and Macmillan sending me a copy for review; it’s an absolute treasure of a book!
