The Blurb

When Luna’s family won an island, their dreams came true – Luna opened a donkey sanctuary, her sister flew a plane, and her brother won a sheep pageant. But Luna’s new donkey has a mortal fear of beaches, her mum’s goat-yoga business is on the rocks, and her brother is weirder than ever! Luna’s got a brilliant plan to solve her family’s problems – it’s time to enter the movie-making business…

The Review

We Made A Movie is just as quirky, humorous and heart felt as We Won An Island, as we venture back to Wishnook. With community at the centre of this story, we see a divisive development threaten the very fabric of the town that Luna and her family now call home.

Charlotte has created a charming setting filled with eclectic characters who ensure that comedy capers and chaos abound above the very real plight of rural communities faced with overdevelopment. We Made A Movie rattles along at pace bringing joy with every calamity. From haggis bans to pet lobsters. warring ice-cream men and film makers, there are plenty of laugh out loud moments.

We see the slight shift in the sibling relationships as Margot grows out of childhood dreams and wants to be seen as more of an adult. There is much discussion to be had about a previously united community torn in two as people pick a side and dig in while they wait for the future of Wishnook to be decided, unwilling to listen to others ideas.

Great for fans of:

  • Flora & Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo
  • Evie And The Animals by Matt Haig, illustrated by Emily Gravett
  • Sona Sharma, Looking After Planet Earth by Chitra Soundar, illustrated by Jen Khatun
