Moonlocket by Peter Bunzl

Hurrah for Waterstones and early release copies! Thanks to them, I got to spend the last day of my Easter holidays snuggled up with this, the second Cogheart adventure. I say snuggled; a more accurate description would be perched on the edge of my seat from beginning to end…

It’s been eight months since Lily and Robert’s last adventure. Robert has moved into Brackenbridge Manor, and life is peaceful. Well, until two seemingly unrelated events plunge the pair into another heart-stopping adventure…

Jack Door, escapologist extraordinaire, pulls off his greatest feat to date – escaping from Pentonville Prison – with only one aim, to recover the mysterious Moonlocket. Secrets from Robert’s past start unraveling faster than the pair can understand the dangers they place them in.

Moonlocket is packed full of mystery, mayhem and mechanicals in a gripping adventure with family and friendship at it’s heart. Peter Bunzl has created a vivid world that sucks you into the steampunk streets, skies and sewers of Victorian England, routing for Lily and Robert against a criminal mastermind who can only be described as evil. Magnificent!

There’s even ‘A Dictionary of Curious Words’ at the end to help with unfamiliar, technical language.

In my opinion, this is even better than Cogheart; can’t wait to see what’s next!

Great for fans of Mortal Engines, Ned’s Circus of Marvels and The Diamond Thief.
