The Blurb

Biographies of Incredible Siblings Through History

Queens. Warriors. Witches. Revolutionaries. History is full of sisters making their mark.

Meet incredible women in this non-fiction book for kids, from Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret to tennis superstars Venus and Serena Williams. Podcasters (and sisters!) Olivia Meikle and Katie Nelson have scoured history for jaw-dropping stories of amazing siblings, including:

  • Why Egyptian ruler Cleopatra went to war against her younger sister Arsinoë
  • How Native American sisters Maria and Marjorie Tallchief became America’s first star ballerinas
  • What made samurai sisters Nakano Takeko and Nakano Koko take on an entire army

Through the stories of the sisters, readers will go on a whirlwind tour of women’s history, from the courts of Imperial China to the French Revolution. And you’ll discover that stories about sisters aren’t anything new – they can be traced back to ancient tales, from Greek goddesses to Mayan mythology.

The Review

A celebration of sisters throughout history, from myths to modern day, and from the world of arts and sports, to royals and revolutionaries.

Whether the best of friends or enemies, a team or rivals, all of the featured stories show the strength and depth of sororal relationships, and how much of an impact sisters make on each other’s lives, as well as the world they live in.

It was fascinating reading stories of inspirational women who fought for each other and the communities they lived in, and those who fought against each other, in good ways and bad. What shines through is the power women have held throughout history to change the world around them, bringing joy, justice, prosperity, peace and even war.

Each story is accompanied by illustrations from a different artist capturing both the essence of the sisters they portray and the time and culture they are from. The changing styles add an extra layer of depth to this beautiful book.
